ZOROBABEL
The workshop of cartoons and animated films Zorobabel, is managed by two author- film directors who have developed a pedagogical and creative project. From the beginning of Zorobabel's foundation in 1994, it primarily has concentrated on initiation animated film workshops for children, adolescents and grown-ups. Zorobabel wants to reach various people, especially those who don't always have the opportunity to empathise with culture, as they don't have the means or as they are part of a less sustainable environment. Certain films made in the initiation workshops (this means made by children and young people) outside the scope of the pedagogical experience and are distributed in festivals in the same way as any other short film made in the spirit of traditional production.
Since the creation of Zorobabel, there has been the desire to start a production structure of animated films: the first director's short films were born in 1997. This course of production grows with the desire to produce young directors (first or second film), directors who adopt a personal and original way.
From the beginning, there has been a division between these two aspects of the workshop; on one hand you had the films made by the initiation workshop, on the other hand the director's films. The Collective Workshop is, however, a peculiar mixture because the productions are made by people from all walks of life who team up to produce a film but with a finishing touch that is comparable to a director's film. (print 35 mm etc.).
Why do we produce animated films? Specifically the analytical aspect discriminates the animation from the live action films. This opportunity to control, almost magically, over a fictitious universe is an alternative that allows us to understand the world that is slipping away from us. While we recreate a personal microcosm, we create a whole world view, frame per frame, and we control a large part of the visual parameters, the sound and esthetical aspects. It reveals the reality in which we live and it also reveals ourselves.
